Well, folks, summer is over. All that fun in the sun has come to a close and autumn lost no time in coming around town. While the sun is still mostly out all day, you can already feel that nip in the air. Summer allowed my friends and I to gather for at least four picnics (it’s insane, I know), go store-hopping (in search for bargains, that is), take walking tours, go swimming, and sit outside for iced mocca lattes. Now, we’re back to being recluse, no thanks to the oncoming colder months. I am already dreading being out and about in October for the Filipina Women’s Network summit in DC. However, it’s an event I am looking forward to attending and writing about. Today, I gave summer a fitting goodbye by walking down King St. in Old Town Alexandria for a few blocks, checking out a couple of bookstores along the way, after the business with the bank.
All is well on the homefront though. Since it is the beginning of football season, the TV is permanently tuned in to, what else, the NFL. I am a newbie to football and so the husband is taking great pains to break down the rules of the game for me. With that, our Sundays and Mondays in the next few months will be devoted to cheering on the Dallas Cowboys and counting down the Superbowl. This is the time of the year where it is best to converse with your significant other during commercial breaks only. And yes, the word “later” becomes their operative word. They'll tell you the trash could wait.
We have a new addition to the family! I just got off the phone with my mother-in-law who relayed the wonderful news that the husband is now officially an uncle. His sister, who lives in Alaska, gave birth to a baby boy last night and both mother and son are doing excellent. The husband’s mom flew to Alaska from St. Louis a few days ago to be by her daughter’s side for the delivery. I think that for any mom-to-be, there could be no better company than your own mother as you go through the labor pains. Congratulations to Dan and Nisha! We can’t wait for the pictures!
