Didn't I say several posts back that my feet will set me up for a disaster? It happened again today. Melted ice equals slippery pavement equals Fleur losing balance equals Fleur breaking her knees. Well, I hope nothing's broken anyway. It was so bad it almost knocked me unconscious. (I guess the bright side of that is I was in so much pain I couldn't care less if 200 other people were looking.) A few feet away from me an old lady also slipped and could have dislocated her shoulders. I limped all the way to the Metro station and tried not to faint in pain. When the husband was informed of my mishap, he met me at the Pentagon and became my crutch all the way home. He baptized me "Gimpy."
Today also happened to be "commuters' hell day." Ice storm warnings were raised all over Northern Virginia and at least 15 traffic accidents were reported along I-395 alone. The husband and I hopped on the train a little past 5 p.m. and finally made it home around 7:30. As I am typing this, there are still commuters out there who left work as early as 4 p.m. and still stuck in buses. Life is a b*tch when bad weather strikes.
So we'll see how my knees turn out tomorrow. The husband already forced two Advils down my throat to alleviate the pain. I have applied cold pack on a very visible swelling on my left knee and I'm hopping on one foot around the house. Temperatures will continue to drop tonight and icy roads usually means bad news in the metro DC area.
In a related news of the odd, eight African green monkeys sustained some minor abrasions and bruises when the trailer they were riding in flipped along I-95 in Harford Country, Maryland. One suffered a head injury and is reportedly in "semicomatose." The article didn't say why the driver, who was uninjured, was traveling with monkeys. Everyone is fair game on slippery highways?
